Intro to the Good Monkey, Bad Monkey Syndrome

Tuesday, January 11, 2005

This is just my version of the angel-devil on your shoulder having arguments. I just happen to like monkeys. Not really sure why, but I do. I find myself having these huge big debates with myself about things all the time and let me tell you folks, sometimes my bad monkey is pretty bad.

Like for instance, I was watching some new show on Food TV today called "Everyday Italian" hosted by some chick named Giada something. She's a slim, pretty young girl with nice manners. Anyways, my good monkey was thinking - pretty cute host, nice clean set, just the type of kitchen I would like if I could ever afford it. And meanwhile my bad monkey was screaming - She's a freakin' anorexic! Look at her stick arms. How often do you think after she just spits out the food once the take is done?

Isn't that so MEAN of me?

But really, it's hard to be convinced about the food or the cooking if the host looks like she wants to gag every time she puts something in her mouth. It's not about just being way too skinny (and she's almost borderline Lara Flynn Boyle-ish), she's just unconvincing as a lover of food. Whenever she cooks something and talks about how to make it taste great, all I hear in my head is her retching after.

Sigh. Bad monkey wins again.

hi karen, boutsy gave me this link because our cats look similar. Mindy is the cutest and i'd love to meet her. scanning through your blogs, i had to respond to this one because it was like YOU READ MY MIND... Giada de Laurentis is sooo fake(because like you said, where could she be storing all that "delicious" food on her stick frame), but i take issue with the size of her head. I mean, I know all tv ppl need to have big heads to appear "normal" on screen but this woman typifies a walking lollipop! The thing is ginormous and she emphasizes the enormousness of her head and the tininess of her body with her puffy updos. I wonder if she's ever seen herself. I can't bear to watch the show - it ranks up there with the Thirsty Traveller or any program with Rachel Ray... I guess I am a bad monkey too.
