Cool Comrags

Thursday, March 17, 2005

I returned home from very flat Edmonton right in the middle of Toronto Fashion Week. To be honest, I was not really in the mood to face the crowds as I had been sleeping badly and been working hard all week. However, I managed to drag myself to the Comrags show and I am glad I did.

Having not been part of the action scene for a while can sometimes work for you as no one really knows what to expect. Having no expectations from the press means you can usually do whatever the hell you want, which is what the designers of Comrags did.

The start of the show was a little slow for me and a little repetitive but after a very brief shaky start, the girls did not fail to impress the audience and press alike by what they are always known for - interesting fabrics and textures layered with impeccable tailoring. The collection was fluid and rich, dappled with rust coloured leather-like woven skirts, structured chiffon shirting and best of all, sexy quilted silhouettes.

Often known for having a tongue-in-cheek "housefrau" vintage esthetic, Comrags revitalized their image by adding a little more of a youthful but not overt, sexiness to fabrics that do not often lend itself to such a theme. Best pieces of the collection were the tiny, fitted, shrunken blazer, the pleated vinyl/leather inspired woven skirts, the puffy origami-esque jacket and my personal favourite, the high waisted, updated and structured trumpet inspired skirt.

Your site is SO pretty. Pink and turquoise, my fav! And tons of pictures, I love pictures. I'll read more over the next week while on my March Break!

Re: Comrags

I LOVE dooce. I have been reading her site since September and following along on her crazy ride to blog stardom! Her writing is so witty and clever! Very clever! Looking fwd to reading yours.

Oh and I would like to correct my colour word choice for your blog's colours - I think this green is even better as "mint" yes mint. Like mint ice cream.
