Runaway Bride

Saturday, April 30, 2005

I am sure that you all have heard by now about the the case of the "bride-who-they-thought-was-abducted-but-really-she-had-cold-feet." And if you haven't, here is what she looks like, it's already plastered all over the news so it's not like I am violating her rights to privacy -

Crafty Me!

Saturday, April 30, 2005

I was originally going to lie about this because sometimes I do that - it's a weird thing I have about waiting to hear or see people's reactions to something I do before confessing to actually doing it. Maybe because I think so many of my friends are so super talented and I am a little mediocre in comparison especially when it comes to crafty things.

Random Thoughts On The Plane

Friday, April 29, 2005

On my way to New York, I had decided to take a pee break just before we got hit by a patch of turbulence, and I thought," Great! I am going to die and they are going to find my body on the toilet and I don't really like the panties I have on." Then I thought about it again, and really, if the plane were to go down, they wouldn't really find me at all - just the BBQ me.

On my way back from New York, when they were handing out the customs forms, the attendant did not give me one because she assumed the Asian couple next to me were my parents but what was even worse was that she gave the form to the guy, who was sitting in the window seat! As if none of us females could have filled out the forms ourselves! The saddest thing about it was that the attendant herself was Asian so you would think she would be able to tell the difference between Japanese and Chinese. Shee-esh!

Grey is Great

Monday, April 25, 2005

Sundays are usually not big TV days for me, it's usually a reading day. Fortunately for me, I stumbled onto a little gem of a show called Grey's Anatomy, on ABC and I am so hooked!!

Kensington Market

Monday, April 25, 2005

I meant to post this awhile ago but ya know, I'm busy, so I get a little slack when I have to fix the photos. Whenever it's a sunny Saturday, Stef and I like to go to Kensington. It's the one place in Toronto that never seems to really change and the vibe is still very hippie and chilled out. I like to think that I am supporting local small businesses....This photo diary is for Miss Marie, who thinks I am super predictable and am always in Kensington Market whenever she decides to call.

The Emancipation of Naeena

Sunday, April 24, 2005

The only way to beat a truly horrendous weekend is to surround oneself with lots of friends. Today we had an impromptu brunch, done very last minute so I was very happy that so many could join us! Lots of food, laughter and general fun had by (couples were grouped together, yes, I do know how to write an actual sentence) Lil Jen, Amanda, Big Jen and Den, Ben and Jen, Kevin (Bridgy), Richie and Mags, Stef and I, and best of all, our little star Aleks. Guys! You know I love hanging out with everyone of you but I never really get to see Aleks so lots of pictures are of him.

S.R.H

Saturday, April 23, 2005

Do you sense that sometimes men think that they are on some sort of higher moral ground because they think women are on some kind of hormonal roller-coaster? I hate that! I hate it when Stef sometimes looks at me and you know he's thinking in his head, "Oh, it's her PMSing!" He's not dumb enough to say it but I know he's thinking it. My brothers used to do it all the time as well and it used to drive me insane.

Ghetto Styles

Thursday, April 21, 2005

Have I mentioned yet that the boiler in my building had a melt down today? I have to say that I have a lot of admiration for the people of the past who had to boil and haul their water to clean themselves and their homes. For some reason, I decided to clean today and once my mind is made up, there is no turning back. So I have been boiling water all night to wash dishes, then to mop the floor and finally to take a bath as I can't go to bed sweaty. I really should unmake my mind once in awhile....

Boy Genius At Work

Thursday, April 21, 2005

Stefan and I have this thing that we argue about. Every time someone asks me what he does for a living, I stammer and sputter and then say,"....something to do with computers. It's internet based but he's not really a programmer although he can do that, but I am pretty sure he does something more complicated than that and really it's all beyond me, so I don't really know. Would you like me to give you his email and he can explain it himself?" And he gets really, really insulted by that.

Morning Workout

Thursday, April 21, 2005

So......I woke up early this morning, fully intending to work out as I have been a little slack lately. I ended up watching CNN and eating leftover dessert. So MUCH better than a work out!

Trial Separation?

Wednesday, April 20, 2005

So, you know how I said I was going to divorce my hairdresser? The problem is that I have had so many compliments on it that I am not sure what to do. I personally find it annoying although it definitely does have a style. So I think for now, I will let it grow out and get it styled by someone else to what I actually wanted. Come Fall when I know I want something new, I'll go back to the current hairdresser.

Cheating, you say? A girl's gotta do what she's gotta do.

TV Ads

Wednesday, April 20, 2005

So the other day Stef and I were watching TV, well he was watching and I was surfing, when this totally normal looking ad came on. Usually, I just tend to block out the ads but it was one of the pharmaceutical ads and I like listening to them. Do you notice that they usually start off with innocent looking enough people, looking VERY normal and extra peppy, and the commentator usually speaks in a very calm voice. The medical warnings are usually at the end and then spoken in a very hasty
manner.

So I am not sure whether I have mentioned my friend Lia yet on this site. I met Lia at the end of my serving career where I consciously made a decision to work at server-hell, aka Vinnie's. Vinnie's is where all servers go to die and resurrect themselves in their true calling or spiral into the abyss of serving-dom. Anyways, I think Lia and I started talking when I forced her to drive me home late one night when I discovered she lived really close to me.

Full Proof Birth Control

Tuesday, April 19, 2005

So I finally managed to watch the show, The Supernanny and people, you gotta watch it. If the screaming, kicking, hair pulling, yelling, incoherent sobs of your husband or partner doesn't drive you crazy, you can bet the kids' will.

OH MY G--!! True Love 4Ever!!

Friday, April 15, 2005

Just was doing my daily reading of Dooce, and people if you don't already read this site, you really are missing out on one of the more enjoyable, unbelievable witty, stomach clenching funny, resoundingly real writing out there. Anyways, Heather is who truly inspired me to start writing this blog. (Sorry Michelle for not being your blog child. But you did help give one of the final kicks in the arse to get to it!!) Her entry today just really shows how Jon, her husband, is perhaps the only man who knows the meaning of true love. I asked Stef whether he had read the entry and whether he would do the same for me. He answered succintly, "Yes" and "I don't love you that much." HAH! He's been downgraded from Saint to Leprechaun.

Divorce

Friday, April 15, 2005

You always go into a relationship with the most optimistic views about it - this time it will be different, this time it will be better, there will be more laughter, joy and love, this time it will not end. You go into it timidly but in good faith, thinking that you will not repeat the mistakes of the past. For awhile, you have a great time and you think all is hunky dory. You have the same pursuits, you like all the same things, you even start finishing one another's sentences!

But then something happens and the spark that once seemed like it would never dim, does. Someone makes a mistake, and you forgive them but you don't forget. After many, you start thinking that there must be something better out there. But you stick it out for awhile, but disappointment sinks its ugly claws in and you can't shake it.

Under These Circumstances....

Tuesday, April 12, 2005

I think I should have a category just for things that I pick up from the gym. After a very long hiatus from the gym, I dragged my sorry butt back there. As you all know, I have a love-hate relationship with the place but, eh, I have to pretend to care about getting fit before bikini season -- before doing what I always do, which is to say "screw it!"

Does anyone else do this? Stef and I are always frantically cleaning before the cleaning lady comes. For some reason our apartment will always pretty much stay spotless until the night before she is due, and then it will look like a bomb decided to explode right in the middle. Usually Stef has to do the Tuesday morning clean and he usually complains long and hard about it. However, he's leaving early tomorrow morning for some promotion thing for Aussie Rules Football (watch breakfast television tomorrow! You might catch him!) so we have to do the cleaning tonight. But I always wonder why we have to clean before the cleaning lady does the rest of the cleaning?

Food for thought.

Enough Already

Monday, April 11, 2005

O.K - So why are they still showing pictures of the Charles-Camilla nuptials and does anyone know why the hell Joan Rivers got invited to that thing?

Body Gives Up

Monday, April 11, 2005

So after much huffing and puffing around the country, and trying to keep up with people who obviously party way more than me and are twice my age (shameful! I must try to rectify the weeninessof my sad situation), my body just decided to say, "Quit it! We're losers! Get it through your head! We are NOT meant to do this" and then decided to give me a major sinus attack Sunday.

This Is Why The Lady Is A.....

Saturday, April 9, 2005

top.charles.camilla.8.ap.jpg

They did it, they really, really did it! What a sad looking couple they make but at least it's all over and Camilla no longer has no live under the stigma of being "the other woman", although I still think in many people's minds, she still is and will forever be.

Why-o-why does every family member who cooks suffer from the "you-can-never-cook-enough" syndrome made quite worse by the "you-shouldn't-leave-anything-as-there-are-people-starving-in-Africa" syndrome? My family had decided to pay me an impromptu visit for dinner and it was so much fun.

Things That Happen....

Thursday, April 7, 2005

There are things that can happen when you tend to travel a lot for your work, these are some of the things that can apply - (a) you could be a complete pig when you come home because all you to do is to toss your discarded clothing around (b) you could come to the realization that it really isn't any point that you signed your donor card as you're really slowly turning into an alcoholic and your liver dooesn't mean shit in the long term of things, (c) you could spend a lot of money that you don't really have on things you don't really need but really, really want, (d) you could have some of the most amazing meals in the world and still realize that your mama's is always gonna be way better than anyone else's, (e) you could realize that no matter where you go or how fun it is, that you will always want to be in your own bed, next to your lover and be able to call your friends at random times or (f) all of the above.

Mother-Fucker

Friday, April 1, 2005

I think that the word "motherfucker" could be the very best word invented in the history of the English language. Whoever came up with it was a veritable genius. When you're frustrated, or angry and no other words can describe how you feel, those two little words can just express so many different things. Try it! Say it softly or loudly or with agression or moroseness and those words convey a multitude of feelings!

Unless you're at work and you're not allowed to swear, then the word "Mother-Truker" makes a good replacement.
