Why-o-why does every family member who cooks suffer from the "you-can-never-cook-enough" syndrome made quite worse by the "you-shouldn't-leave-anything-as-there-are-people-starving-in-Africa" syndrome? My family had decided to pay me an impromptu visit for dinner and it was so much fun.
I love family time, I love that you can love, laugh and fight all in the matter of twenty minutes. I have also come to realize that the relationship that I have with my family is an uncommonly close one and for that, I am always grateful.
I often find that we often also communicate best when surrounded by food and are often guided by love by our choice of cooking certain foods. For instance there are razor clams that not many of us enjoy and yet, my mother insisted on getting them as my dad completely loves them. I know that Stef is not a big seafood fan, but will eat baked tilapia and that my sister in law loves whole fish baked with coarse salt.
So as we ate our multitude of dishes, (yes, Mum! Thank Goodness, we didn't get one other whole fish!!) we squabbled, caught up and laughed a lot. I loved that my dad felt comfortable enough in my home to fall asleep on the couch and Kelvin went to the bookshelf and grabbed himself a book to read.
It makes me realize that despite all the years that pass, my family still is the one constant in my life and I am so very happy that that is the case.
Now, if only Stef will roll my distended body to bed so I can pass out, I would be even more so.
