New York and The Long Weekend
Friday, July 1, 2005
So, I managed to get back just in time for the long weekend. New York is always fun but is not so much fun when experiencing the heat wave that we have been having right now. Your feet get disgusting and dirty and the rain just brings up the wonderful odour of tar, crap and garbage. But then, there are are wonderful things like Forever 21 where you can find a totally cute skirt for $12.
I actually bought it for a friend but tried it on today to see whether it would fit her and realized it is slightly big on me. Which means there is no way it'll ever fit Marie, who is about the size of my pinkie. Ah well.
So, totally random thing that happened in NY. There was a bomb scare right outside our NY office due to an errant suitcase. Now, if it was me walking down the street and there were all these cops, firefighters, FBI and even a helicopter hovering around, and someone said there was a possible bomb, I would say, "Alrighty then, see you later!"
But no, there were all all these people milling around, curious and taking pictures. Turns out that someone had accidentally left their suitcase in the cab and in a pique, the cabdriver decided to throw the suitcase right on the street. Which to me is simply unbelievable on the cab driver's part — especially in this day and time with terrorist issues in the U.S.
Anyways, I was back in time for our long weekend — although once again, the repressive heat was beyond unbelievable. Stefan and I were nipping at each other until he finally suggested to go on a slurpee date. Nothing like a giant slurpee to make me less grumpy. Stef, the amateur slurpee monster, ended up with a very watery slushee and decided to devour mine. I love that he is still very much young at heart.
I then took him to Riverdale farm at the east end of the city as he had never been. It's funny how one can live their entire lives in a certain place and still not know certain tresures of the city. I really love Cabbagetown, where Riverdale Farm is, for its character homes and quirky charm.
Today was spent antique hunting at Aberfoyle in Guelph. We had a lot of fun teasing my mum who happens to be the world's slowest walker. We didn't find anything much to my disappointment as I always dream that I will find that one amazing chair that I can re-upholster. It doesn't quite help that Stefan has no imagination and doesn't like the idea of having to do anything to anything that he buys.
I wish long weekends were longer.
