Liberating The Kitchen God In Him

Tuesday, September 27, 2005

What is it about boys and domesticity? It's true what they say that the boys just sucker you in to be their girlfriends, but in reality are simply looking for replacements for their mothers. Take Stefan for instance. I think that at some point in his life, he was independent and could very well take care of himself. I know that he fed himself and also me occasionally with home cooked meals. I made the mistake of showing him that I was better at it than he was.

The End Of Summer

Saturday, September 24, 2005

It's true what they say about Ontarians, we will hold on to the last days of summer like a dertermined three-year-old holding on to their favourite grubby toy. It may be freezing, but as long as the sun is shinning, we will grit our teeth and walk to work in our flip flops. Maybe it's because summer always seems to come so late to us — in comparison to Vancouver, for instance. We forget how disgusting, sweaty and smoggy our summers really are.

Sayings

Thursday, September 22, 2005

I have decided to add sayings to my "Lexicons" because really I come up with some zingers and people use it, so I might as well take credit for it. Then there are also some zingers that other people come up with that I think should really be used more in the world.

Here are two of my favourites right now. Mum, I suggest you do not read this entry. Or if you do, please do not call me after because I really don't need to hear "I didn't raise you to talk that way..." for the twentieth time this week. I swear, get over it.

Fucked Up The Ass With A Thorny Stick
No explanation needed, really but just in case you do need it, it simply means, really, really screwed.

Walk Of Shame
When a boy or a girl unexpectedly sleeps over (one night stand) at someone else's house and has to walk home the next morning in the clothes they wore the previous night. This is always a constant source of amusement for me.

Fall TV

Wednesday, September 21, 2005

There is nothing that I love better than the new Fall TV season. After a whole summer of nothingness, my favourite shows have begun their showing their new shows. I have promised myself that I would only limit myself to some shows because it's really ridiculous already especially with all the added CSI's and Law and Orders. I have decided that my "to watch" shows this Fall, will be the following: CSI:Miami, CSI, Cold Case, Grey's Anatomy, Everybody Hates Chris and everything else will be random watches.

Stefan-Man

Saturday, September 17, 2005

Sometimes I think that I am so dating the wrong person. We're such opposites. I've been in Edmonton for work these past few days, eating badly as I always do when I am on the road and not exercising at all. In fact, my only form of exercise these past few days has been to walk to my candy basket at my booth. I have been averaging at least thirty tootsie rolls a day. No wonder my stomach is in constant agony. Then, there's my partner in crime....

Dry Air

Friday, September 16, 2005

What is it about the Prairies that makes the air here so darn dry? I swear that I go through tubes of lotion every time I am here and I am still crackly as paper.

Entre Ses Mains (In His Hands)

Thursday, September 15, 2005

Entre Ses Mains is wonderfully, drawn out psychological thriller that deals with the boundaries of right and wrong. The movie focuses on Claire, a young, vibrant woman who is in love with life, her husband and her child. She lives a very orderly and comfortable life as an insurance broker and her life is uncomplicated. This is all until she encounters Laurent, an enigmatic vet who has a flooded basement

Summer In Berlin

Tuesday, September 13, 2005

From the first glance, Summer In Berlin seems like a movie about ordinary people, living their ordinary lives in the summer in modern Berlin. Katrin is a 39 year old single mother who has trouble finding a job, Nike is her girlfriend and neighbour who is a bit of a tart and has dry sense of humour, Max is Katrin's son about to hit his teens and Ronald is Nike's bad boy love interest. Even though the story mainly centers around these characters, this movie definitely has a very strong ensemble cast that make up very poignant moments in the movie.

Love U2

Tuesday, September 13, 2005

U2 is such an incredible band and we were lucky to get to see them perform live tonight! There were many, many touching and beautiful songs played. Their body of work has been remarkable, musically and politically, hence the many remarkable songs that evoke so many powerful feelings.

Zozo

Sunday, September 11, 2005

Zozo is a movie about a 10 year old boy who is ripped from his home in war-torn Beirut in 1987. He starts off as normal a boy can be in a war torn zone, playing with his friends and gossiping about girls. That all changes the day his family receives official papers to immigrate to Sweden to reunite with his grandparents. Zozo is sent out on an errand and just barely misses being hit during an attack. His family however, are not so fortunate and Zozo is left to fend for himself.

Neverwas

Saturday, September 10, 2005

Toronto is buzzing with activity this weekend — the 60km walk for breast cancer, the Toronto Taste Festival in the downtown core and my favourite first Fall activity, the Toronto Film Festival. Stefan and I are fortunate to have had the chance to get tickets for the past five years. My big thing when it comes to picking movies out of the hundreds, is not to pick a movie that I think will be too mainstream with "big" stars. In fact, I usually stay away from those movies. Last night was an exception and I am so glad that I was privileged to be at the world premiere of Neverwas.

Killer Of Crab

Tuesday, September 6, 2005

I have had this unquenchable craving for crab lately. It all started about two months ago when I decided to switch my parent's treat of lobster to try some Dungeness crab. I must admit that it was a little selfish on my part as I had not yet tried this crustacean. We all discovered that we much prefered the crab to the lobster as its meat was far sweeter and more fun to eat. That is, all of us other than Kelvin, my lazy eating brother, who prefers all food to be easy and scoopable. Although to his defense, he was happily picking the claws himself this last time.

Goodbye, Good Friend Beer

Friday, September 2, 2005

As you know, I have been plagued by unknown allergies for years. After endless testings and scores of doctors, no one has yet been able to determine the exact cause of my allergies. There was this naturopathic doctor who did at least manage to isolate some foods or beverages that I was "sensitive" to. I adhered to her list for maybe one month but since seafood, wheat, rice and soy were part of the "do not eat" list I decided that life was too short to not eat things I loved. I had made the conscious decision that I would have to live with pills for the rest of my life. Included on that list was also various forms of alcohol, especially beer.
