Hockey Hate

This entry is probably going to get my Canadian citizenship revoked, but since I vowed that I would write what I think despite any unseen criticism, I should be honest - I don't like hockey. I know it's our national past time and people in this country are mad for it, but I personally find it quite boring. I couldn't really write this entry before because everyone said that I should not judge the game without seeing it in person.

This Friday, we went to see the Toronto Marlies, the farm team of the Leafs play. I still am not sure how the "farm" thing works despite several explanations but from what I can gather is that the farm team usually consists of potentials, have beens, and good- but- not- good- enough players. We had seats right behind the glass and for me, the banging of one player by the other against the glass was the most exciting part. Other than the one fight, beer, good company of friends, I would have been completely bored out of my mind. It was such a happy coincidence that I did not know hockey games are in "periods" as opposed to " quarters" as the end came much sooner than expected.

Perhaps the reason why I don't really enjoy the game is because I didn't grow up in this country. I don't have childhood memories pf playing or seeing the games like many of my friends here. I do get excited during the Olympic Games when Team Canada plays, but I think it's only because I always have a running bet with an American friend of mine.

So needless to say, I can't wait to have the hockey season end (even though it only just started). If only, to stop having to hear the very vocal rantings of the local resident sport maniac.
