Mouse In The House, Part Deux

Friday, November 25, 2005

As you know, we live in an apartment in a rather old building. There are all sorts of weird cracks in the walls and sometimes you can even hear the wind between the buildings. Today, when Stefan came home from the gym, he noticed that Mindy was in her "hunting mode" near the fridge. I usually ignore this because it very easily could be the wind but Stefan is more proactive than I, offered to hunt with Mindy.

So there they both were with their hinnies in the air, when Stefan exclaimed that there was a little creature underneath our fridge. I continued to ignore it as I am the kind of person who needs "to see it, to believe it." Then Mindy came out with a little tiny something caught between her teeth and started heading right for me.

I reacted the way any self-respecting, strong woman would. I bolted like a blue streak of light, into the bedroom, shrieking my head off. Yes, ladies and gents, one of my proudest moments.

The end result wasn't as expected. Stefan and I had a shouting debate on what to do with the thing when Mindy dropped it on the floor. I shouted to just get rid of it, but not to kill it. Turns out, the little creature just pretended to play dead and headed towards one of the many crevices in our apartment and got away.

But it goes to show, despite her growth in girth over the years, Mindy still has the hunting instincts of a tiger.
