Tracking Me Down

Thursday, June 1, 2006

Sometimes Google scares me.

Or the fact that people can find you through Google.

Because that's what happened to me. Twice, this week.

Ming and I were reminiscing about our school days, when Ann's name came up. Ann was a senior in our school that I had become really good friends with before I left for Canada. We had kept in touch for years but, at some point, we lost touch. I told Ming that I thought about Ann all the time and wished that we could reconnect somehow. And then voila! I got an email from Ann on Tuesday. She somehow tracked me down through my blog. Well, what a nice little coinci-dink!

Now, my little second cousin (Mel, I know you're taking offense that I'm calling you "little" despite the fact that you tower over me. The fact is, I've diapered you at least a couple of times and so you'll always be little to me, even when I am eighty) seems to have also found me through my blog. Turns out, she had heard about my little mention in the local paper and decided to "google" me. Now she's decided that she wants to do a profile for her Writer's Craft project on her "highly interesting cousin."

Ye Gods! What the heck does that mean?

Therein lies my little dilemna.

I've never hidden the fact that I have a blog but neither have I really advertised the fact. I've always been really insistent that I would be as honest (to a certain limit) about my thoughts. My pact with Stefan was that I would not ever mention anything that I would not dare proclaim to everyone in the world. Then again, I never thought the little ones in my prodigious family would actually be reading this. (Drat the internet savvy crew!) I think I'm already the unofficial queen of black sheep in the family as it is .... (having tattoos, multiple piercings, saying any random thought aloud that comes in my head, eloping, etc).

I guess how honest I remain is something that I will have to ponder a bit more.

Man, I was planning to write about the seniors and STDs story that was featured on CNN.

Probably isn't a good idea, since little Mel's dad (my cousin) is a pastor. I'll be permanently made Queen of the Black Sheep and I was so hoping to pass the title on to one of the younger cousins.
