Life List
Tuesday, October 3, 2006
I was going to be all sage and talk about the truths that I've learnt about myself these 29 years but instead I am going to write about my life list. I had stumbled on to the Ellen show sometime last week and was captivated by her opening story about someone fulfilling something on her "life list." Not being a regular watcher of this show, I didn't really know what they were talking about. The whole thing is about how people should actually write a list of what they would like to do because the act of writing makes you more apt to do it. During this show, a woman had said she wanted to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and she had recently done it with her husband.
It got me thinking, what are interesting things (to me) that I would love to do before I die? I'm a list maker, I like lists so why didn't I have a life list? So, here goes, my life list for now...with my short attention span it's bound to change often -
1. Learn to speak another language fluently
Have I mentioned how sometimes Stefan and I have twin brains? I started writing this entry on the 29th but had not posted it. As a birthday present, Stefan got us both a 6 week French speaking course at the
2. Go to Paris (France, not Ontario) before I am 30
Again, the man surprised me. In his birthday card to me, he had written something to this effect,"In anticipation of taking you to Paris for your big birthday, I have gotten you French speaking lessons." He's a dream, that hubby of mine....
3. Jump out of a plane
Mama and Papa Kang are thinking "dear God..." But seriously, I've always been terrified of heights and I think this would be a good way to get over it. Stefan has done tandem jumping in South Africa and since we are planning to go there at some point, I would like to do it there as well.
4. Take a cooking course in Tuscany
I read about this once in Saveur Magazine and have been dreaming about it ever since....
5. Write a book
I think I shocked everyone who knows me that I went into fashion instead of English. I've been writing all my life. I don't know what I would write about though since I am so A.D.D with my interests....
6. Learn to knit something other than a scarf
It's pathetic....4 years of knitting and I still cannot figure patterns....maybe I'll try a hat this year....
7. Help build something in Africa that will make the people's lives better
I've always felt strongly about this. It's one of the most ignored continents in the world and probably needs the most help...
8. Relearn how to play the viola
I played for 7 years in the school symphonic and string orchestra and I miss it. There is something magical about being able to create music.
9. Read more books
Stefan's thinking,"you already read 2 books a day..." BUT I am thinking, "I want to try to read every book that has ever been published...."
10. Go on a European adventure with my parents and try not to kill them
I really like my parents. But it does drive me insane when Mama Kang is walking so slow (I swear, she is the absolute S L O W E S T human walker alive) or when Papa Kang has to eat Chinese food every day (even though he insists that he doesn't do it and yet totally does). That being said, I would love to experience a new city/country together.
