S: So, what are we having?
K: The usual - clams in spicy black bean sauce, snow pea leaves sauteed with garlic, Korean BBQ short ribs, crab....
S: For Thanksgiving?
K: We're asian....

Later on....

K: Can you please feed Mindy? She gets wet food today...Turkey...
S: Hey, how come she gets turkey?
K: She's only half-Asian...

We celebrated Thanksgiving last weekend. Isn't it weird how Americans and Canadians celebrate different Thanksgivings? I wonder why that is.

So now you know my little secret. I am not a fan of the big bird. I think it's partly because I didn't grow up with it and find it can always be a little tough and dry. Also, when we first moved here, we always bought the whole bird. Which wasn't a good thing since all we ever ate was the breast. So then we were left with leftovers all week long - turkey sandwich, turkey stew, turkey salad, turkey fried rice....

I've tried it at other people's houses, at fancy restaurants and it just isn't something that I would crave. I like all the other stuff though. So whenever I do have to make a traditional Thanksgiving/Christmas meal, I much prefer making a perfectly roasted chicken, beef tenderloin and salmon. That way I can get the potatoes, gravy, stuffing and all the other bits with some choice in the protein.

Plus everyone knows that I am not into repetition of food. I can only have a meal once with one day of leftovers. Since Stef's parents are divorced, we usually have double the turkey during holidays. Sometimes, there's leftovers to take and then I really get turkeyed out.

Besides, Thanksgiving to me is not really about the food. It's about the company you keep and realizing how lucky I am to have my family and friends.

Maililing - Thanks for your lovely words... When are you going to get a blog so that I can check your family shenanigans out?

HI, I linked from the elsewhere blog.

We don't celebrate thanksgiving in Australia, but I'd choose your meal anyday of the week.
