Raging The Poop

Yes. I have indeed become one of those "crazy cat" mamas who talk about their cats. Stefan always warned me about that when I first started my blog. Oh well. It is what it is.

I am always constantly amazed how human like cats can be. I grew up with dogs and dogs are definitely the simpler animal to take care of. They just don't hold grudges the way cats do.

Anyway, I don't know what it is about Mindy but when she's annoyed she poops in random places. Usually on something that Stefan and I particularly like. If she's pissed with either one of us, she'll wait until we're cleaning and take out our favourite piece of clothing or most often, our favourite shoes and poop on/in them. This usually happens when either one of us are travelling. When I was travelling all the time, I had to remind Stefan to put all my things away. I think her tolerance for either one of us being away is about 7 days and then she just rages through her poop. When Stef was away for a month in Australia last year, almost all his favourite things got pooped on and then she refused to acknowledge his presence for about 3 days when he got home. He would cajole, tempt her with treats and she would just look at him in the haughtiest manner, eat her treat and then flick his face with her tail as if to say,"You still have not been forgiven, peon!"

There's also the fact that she's extremely perfinicky about her toilette. Her litter absolutely needs to be cleaned the minute she's used it. Sometimes she'll come and let either one of us know that she's used the toilet and then she'll even watch us to see that we clean it just so. She likes her litter to be completely flat once her business has been taken out and if there is any abberation to this, she'll start "urf"-ing at us. It really is ridiculous.

So, this past summer we've experimented leaving her overnight by herself when we've gone to the cottage. That's because her usual cat nanny was also busy cottaging. Plus we figured that since all our other cat owning friends always seemed to be able to go away for a couple of days with just leaving extra food and water, that we could too. For the most part, she's been fairly good about it.

This weekend however, she did the unthinkable. We got home from an overnight trip and she had pooped on OUR bed. A wet, stinky poop no less. Stef was so livid because she's been told that even though we understand her rages, that our bed and her bed were "special" places and she's never, ever allowed to show her anger there. So, he gave her a lecture and a small spank. While he was spanking her, I was spanking him to stop. When I say Stefan spanks her, it's really a light tapping with his pointing finger. When I say I spanked Stefan, it's with a loud open hand on his bum.

Can you just imagine the scene?

I think I am going to be a bad parent when it comes to disciplining my kids. The last time I even yelled at Mindy, I felt so contrite after that I cried. Meanwhile, after Stef taps her he usually tells her,"I am really disappointed in you, Mindy. You really know better than this." Then she sulks but she can never stand her daddy being mad at her and so she sucks up to him after (see picture above after she was a bad kitty). With me, she just knows she can get away with murder and all she has to do is ignore me for 20 minutes before I coddle her.

Hi Karen,
I'm a crazy cat person too. My cat's have a tolerance of only a few hours. If I'm out for the whole day they end up very clingy. Neither of them have gone to the extremes of your Mindy though.
Cheers, lj

Lisa - actually as sucky as it was that she pooped in our bed, I still had to laugh.

Louise - YES! Crazy cat mamas unite!
