White Is The New Black

I thought I would do a little fashion blitz, a practice run before my annual Oscar fashion report. The 64th Golden Globes Awards were held last night and the colour of the evening was white. I really like the idea of a great white dress, it's a refreshing change to the basic black. As you can see, not everyone's interpretation of this trend had the desired result.

Let's start with the best dressed for the night. From the girls in white, I definitely thought that Ali Larter's dress was the best with it's dramatic plunging vee and gorgeous flowing skirt. It was feminine and sexy without looking sleezy. I am usually not a big fan of either Jennifer Gardner or Ellen Pompeo but I really liked their choices last night. Jennifer's dress had an almost vintage feel and was simple while Ellen's dress looked really clean and sleek. I think a big part of me liking Ellen's outfit is also the fact that she doesn't look like her usual skeletal self. Heidi Klum and Kate Winslet showed how simplicity with well picked accessories or stunning red lipstick can sometimes be the best choice. Special mention goes out to Kyra Sedgwick. I think her dress was really pretty and romantic, I just had a problem with one of her straps that just looked like an overly decorated bra strap.

As for the girls who dared to wear colour, I really loved Drew Barrymore's whole look. I loved the pale pink perfectly draped dress against her dark skin and dark hair. She just keeps getting better with age. Angelina Jolie's pewter grey dress was really beautiful and classic. She looked really stunning and it definitely helps that her arm candy wasn't bad to look at either. And as much as people dislike J-Lo, I really think she's one of the few women in Hollywood who can pull off dramatic without looking overdone.

Unfortunately this time around, there were so many people that were horrendously dressed. I never understand this phenomenon. You would think that as a celebrity, with so many fashion experts at your perfectly manicured fingertips that this was not possible. But, it always is.

Sienna Miller's dress could have been interesting but I was far too distracted by Heidi-esque hair. I feel like she should be yodeling. And someone needs to tell me why this girl is so famous? The only thing that I can think of is that she sometimes fucks Jude Law.

Moving on.

Breaking up with JT does not seem to be going so well for Cameron Diaz. Her dress was a frightful horror and Nicolette Sheridan just looked like a tied up piece of ham. Beyonce and Jennifer Love Hewitt both went metallic and unfortunately, they both looked like golden eyesores. What were they thinking? Speaking of thinking, Vanessa Williams and Rinko Kikuchi obviously wasn't. Either that, or they were trying to channel glorified poodles. Patricia Arquette always looks bad but looking at her siblings, I am starting to think that good taste just isn't in their genes. My big surprise of the night was Cate Blanchette, whom I just absolutely adore. I think the dress would have been perfect if it had either a full long skirt or short one. The mullet hem just didn't do it for me.

gg-short.jpgAccording to fashion forecasts, Spring hems are calling for short short short. You definitely saw quite a number more cocktail type dresses at this award than usual. Here is a perfect example of "Do" and "Don't." Can you guess which one?

This doesn't have anything to do with fashion, but if you missed the show, you MUST look for Sasha Baron Cohen's acceptance speech online. I usually can't abide his comedy (only because I spend most of the time being SO embarrassed for him) but he was quite hilarious last night.

I thought Drew B and Kate Winslet looked gorgeous as always. Angelina looked good, but why does she suddenly look like a stick insect? Good reporting.

Thanks for the comment on my page!

Mree - I can't believe that we're not our usual fashion brain twins. I agree that Cameron's dress was so "her". Unfortunately, I also think her style is a little whack. It's ok...still love you...

Jenna - any inspirations for the big night? Please don't get something like Cameron's poufy horror. You will live to regret it...Go with the "Reese" look. You can so go strapless...

Jodie - Thanks for your comment. I know! It's upsetting about Angelina succumbing to the Hollywood skinniness. I always loved her curves...
