Oscar Fashions 2007

Yes, I know that I am a couple days late on this but photoshop on my computer at work is working so very slowly that I had to wait until I came home to do this. How shall we start this? I think I will break this down by categories -
Thanks For Coming Out To Play
These were for the people who could have possibly been "Best Dressed" except for some little detail of their outfit.

Nicole Kidman - I usually love Nicole Kidman (especially more now after her wonderfully frank interview on the Oprah Oscar special). She's usually a pretty savvy dresser but I hated the huge half bow thing floating around her neck. If it wasn't for that one detail, she definitely would have been one the best dressed in my books. I loved the beautiful draping, the bright bold colour and if you can find a picture of the back, it was quite a stunning dress.
Jennifer Hudson - Lately at all the award shows, she's been just absolutely fabulously dressed. I like that she's not a stick, that she understands her body and is not afraid to be sexy and take fashion risks. The dress in itself was quite lovely but I was far too distracted by her kid space jacket to pay attention to it.
Maggie Gyllenhaal - I have to admit that I have never been a huge fan of hers but she's growing on me. When she presented I was just blown away by her dress. I am really starting to fall in love with navy again and I thought the bodice was so unique. That is until I saw pictures of the full dress this morning. What the heck is that weird detailing at the hem?
Penelope Cruz - I honestly think that Penelope Cruz is one of the most underrated actresses and beauties in Hollywood. She makes bold choices in her acting roles and fashion. I loved the colour and that bodice, just the work and detailing is mind-blowing and I know that this part may just be me being picky, but I just hate feathery detailing on anything. It feels a little tacky to me and just conjures thoughts of ostriches' backsides. That's just my two cents.
Most Valuable Dressers

Gwyneth Paltrow - This probably will not be a popular choice but I really loved the vintage element to this dress. The colour was unusual and the pleating was so complicated. I liked that she kept it pretty simple because her dress was so detailed.
Queen Latifah & Reese Witherspoon - I think they were the few who wore black to the Oscars this year and both dresses had just enough detailing to make it not boring. Once again, I think it takes a lot of confidence to go minimalist in the era of bling.
Kate Winslet - I just thought she was a breath of fresh air. The dress was such a fresh colour, her makeup was simple and her radiance was all the glamour she needed.
Rachel Weisz - Metallics are definitely here to stay. I loved the colour against her creamy skin and the detailing on the train on her dress? To die for. My only problem was that I felt like her makeup was a little too gothy dark.
Jennifer Lopez - She was THE best dressed as far as I am concerned. Her dress reminded me of Hollywood glamour of old. The dress was simply stunning, the little detailing around the jewelled collar. Her whole look was perfect.
Kick Them Off The Team

Kirsten Dunst - Have I ever mentioned my deep distaste for Kiki? I've never known what the fuss is all about with her. She's got snaggle tooth, (for all the money she's making, she should really get it fixed), she's annoying in interviews and I just plain don't like her acting. Anyway, she is by far THE WORST dressed to the Oscars in the past five years. Her outfit looks like a mesh sequin t-shirt threw up all over a bad 1980's Dallas type pageant dress. Blech!
Zhang Ziyi - Oh, Ziyi! Cute girl, bad choices. She makes me feel like I should eat her, she looks like a very bad wedding cake.
Anne Hathaway - I was really surprised by Anne Hathaway's mistake in the fashion arena, she usually looks so poised. Anyway, the big giant black bow over her bust just killed it for me, she looks like a badly wrapped present. If you google for it, you'll see the back of her dress where she has a smaller bow right under her ass. Not pretty, it's just not pretty. (shaking of the head commences)
Jessica Biel - I think Jessica Biel must have misread her invitation because who wears something this boring and inappropriate to the Oscars?
Naomi Watts - Doesn't Naomi look like she was some poor relation who had to borrow a badly fitted past bridemaid's dress?
Eva Green - I think I am one of the few people who didn't watch the latest James Bond movie but from trailers, this girl looked like quite the hottie. Not on Oscar night it seemed. She's a cross between Lily Munster and the Mummy.
And that's my two cents. Who else thought Ellen did such a great job hosting?
