The Perfect Black Cardigan
Thursday, September 6, 2007
This is going to sound like the most ridiculous thing but I have been looking for a basic black cardigan for the past month now. My old cardigan has finally bit the bullet, more like faded out and has been given to charity. You would think that replacing it would be the easiest thing.
Every week, I hit the stores and I come up with nothing. Isn't that bizarre? High end, low end, big chains, independent boutiques and STILL nothing. This is what I've encountered - long wooly sweater coats, V-neck tunic length, cropped body with cropped arms, crew neck with leg-o-mutton sleeves, beaded sequined patterns, sheer webby lace, vintage inspired cardigans with big buttons.
Don't get me wrong, I love variety, a twist on a regular theme. In fact, I already own five novelty black cardigans. I need to know what it takes to make one simple light weight merino wool, crew neck, button down cardigan.
Because at this point in time I am considering knitting one myself.
Except that I suck at knitting.
And I've never graduated past knitting a hat.

The perfect cardie does not come easily. Happy searching... my fingers are crossed for you.
see you, g
Yes..such a hard thing to find! I agree...
Could you maybe refresh the colour by re-dying it perhaps if your old one is just faded....?
what is the world coming to egh? ;)) x
urban? just went to urban today & saw two plain cardis... one was kind of itchy though.
how about gap? DIG KAREN DIG.
I have this one in every colour besides black, though the black might just be what you are looking for: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=sc_pgb_r_2_1_270593011/601-8856844-3541744?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000RHJNKE
Cheers!
Gracia - Thanks for your optimistic thoughts.
Abigail - I thought so too AFTER I gave my one cardigan away.
Jenna - I can't abide the itchy which was all I found at Urban. Thanks for thinking of me, lil sis.
Hayley - Thanks SO much for your suggestion! THAT is exactly what I am looking for. I've never thought of Target and I understand why you bought all those sweaters in all those colours. I am not sure whether they ship to Canada but will look into it.
it looks like the cardigans at target are out of stock! i, too, am in searh of a perfect cardigan. jcrew.com has some perfect ones...the "jackie" cardigan...i just can't convince myself to spend that much money on it:)
