Our Hell
Sunday, September 16, 2007
This song has been running through my head all week even though it has NOTHING to do with our situation, other than the title. We've been living in Ikea hell for the past week. Stefan keeps saying that he doesn't know why it's also "my" hell since he's been doing all the work. But he doesn't understand that his frustrations and moaning over the project has been grating on my already irritable nerves.
And really, I have no reason to be irritable. After all, this project has been in part, mainly for me and my burgeoning collection of books. I love to buy books. I still go to the library tons but I love to re-read books so I buy books that I know I will want to experience again. Unfortunately, there are a lot of those.
As you can see, we're building a Stolmen bookshelf cum storage unit. It really is a wonderful system; especially if you live in an old loft like us with uneven floors. The only thing with this system is that everything has to be perfectly level for it to work. Doing this with Mr. Math Major, Super Anal Retentive On Details is not particularly pleasant especially when it comes to me.
"Who cares if it's 1% off?" I was often saying to him.
I truly just don't care about being precise when it comes to building Ikea shit. And that is also probably the reason why the stuff I build sometimes seems wonky. I am anal about other stuff though, like how to organize my books once this is all done. Part of me wants to do it by size, part of me wants to do it by colour. A really BIG part of me wants to do it alphabetically by category. This stems from having worked in a bookstore all throughout high school. I think I am going to have to try several different methods until I find the right one. How does everyone organize their books, I wonder?
