Saying Hello To Thirty

I was going to write something like,"I am no longer going to post any more entries until Stefan a.k.a Technical Support has put up my new effing masthead." But then I realized that would be petty. And I don't do petty anymore. You know why? Because I'm finally thirty and in addition to frilly, tartan mini skirts that have been taken to the local charity store, I have also done away with my pettiness. And pickiness. And bitchiness. And impatient nature.

And if you believed all of the above, you're a fool and do not know me at all.

So, it's true. I finally hit the dirty thirties this past Monday. I have to say I was excited about this birthday. I know some people dread it but I say, "If you can't change your age, you might as well ask for the bestest presents you can get." Not that that's really happened just quite yet but I know it's all in the works. I had a really lovely birthday weekend (which I am hoping to extend for the rest of the week, just because I can).

Saturday was the day of my "Super Sweet Thirty" party. I spent the day just hanging out with myself, getting a new phone (crackberry-itis, here I come!) a new dancing frock (which was promptly ruined when a guy friend spilled his drink down my front) and getting ready. A few friends came over and then we all headed to the bar. The streets were teaming with people due to it also being Nuit Blanche, an all night festival hosted by the city. Most bars were open until 4 am but I left my party just before 3 am to make a trip to Chinatown. Now I'm quite known for my tendency for Asian food in the late night, but Chinatown at 3 am was a whole different world. All the restaurants were popping with late night hungry revelers, it was another party onto itself.

Sunday, the girls (Jill and Amy), Stef and I went for brunch (more like Linner since it was 3 pm) in Little Italy. The girls commiserated over their sad hungover state while I, who had wisely paired water with every alcoholic beverage, was enjoying mimosas. We later on went to the corner ice cream parlour and sat in the sun on the kiddy seats. We noticed that there were some open houses nearby and we all decided that we would pretend to be a polygamist family. Unfortunately, the real estate agent was having none of it and refused to play along. The house was so unexpectedly lovely but completely not in a neighbourhood that we would have considered. Mindy and I then took a long nap on Stefan, who had to leave halfway because we were crushing and overheating him simultaneously.

Monday was my actual birthday. I was surprised by the most beautiful bouquet delivery from Stef. Although I had been hinting for flowers, I didn't think he was actually going to do it. After all, I've hinted for other things before. Sometimes I think he pretends not to hear me to throw me off. Alice treated me to oysters and wine after work and later on that night, the girls, Stef and I got together for a great tapas Asian meal at Supermarket.

So far, being 30 has been great and I am the luckiest girl in the world.

Karen,
Happy three oh! I wanted to call you but realised I don't have your number, I asked Jo but she didn't have it either (she was in Singapore for a stopover from Perth) Great to hear you had a nice day. Did you have a double birthday celebration with Ken?

Happy birthday! Sounds like you had a great time. I'm only a few weeks behind you...
