Suckered Into The Twilight

"Sigh... don't you miss young love?"

My IM pops up.

Oh goody, best friend is waxing lyrical in the middle of the day. Turns out she has been bitten by the "romance" of the Twilight series. I must say, I was slightly curious. During our vacation, almost every female under the age of 75 was reading some version of it. I wasn't sure what to expect.

Well, let's just say it's no Jane Austen but I get the appeal. Everyone wants a little of the exotic and the unattainable from time to time. Look at me, I did manage to snag the white unicorn that is Stefan, who is so magical, mystical and err, white...

The nice thing is that it's a fast, easy read but I do get some strange looks on the subway, either that or the rolling of eyes. I can't help but feel that the main male character is a little stalkerish in The Police "Every Breathe You Take" way but am curious to see what happens in the second book. It is NOT however, like "Harry Potter with the romance" that best friend assured me it was like.

As to my reply to best friend's IM:

K: No, I don't miss the tummy aches and bouts of diarrhea... does he love me? Will it be forever?

M: What are YOU talking about?

K: You know the butterflies that come with early courtship...

M: Why can't you just say butterflies? As usual TMI!

K: LOL

Seriously, she protests but the reason why she fell in love with me was because of my IM's (among other things).

I bought the first two books of the Twilight saga on my way to DC and I was really embarassed to be seen buying it. Matt was teasing me, calling me a groupie! I was attracted to it because I think Rob Pattinson is waa waa wee waah, however, the movie/plot made me cringe. Edward seemed to be chasing after Bella all the time saying, "We can't be friends" and Bella had no personality whatsoever. The second book is better so hopefully the New Moon movie will be better too.

I finished the 2nd book last night and must say, I found it a little meh. Marie promises the others will get better. Thank goodness for my super special powers - speed reading! The embarassment is not as prolonged. Kind of have no interest to see movies however for the opposite reason. Find the guy who plays Edward not hot at all... LOL

k stop reading already if you are so pained! lol
it's def an easier read than a suitable boy (lordy) second book was a little meh but picked up at the end no?
don't bother with the movie bc as per usual movies don't do justice to the books....you'll feel even more teeny bopperish!

OK, I can admit when I've made a mistake. Just watched the movie (lots of cringing on my part... TOO many random stares!) and concur to Grace and M that Rob Pattinson has potential to be cute (much cuter as Cedric in Harry Potter, perhaps it's the weird stalker stares?) but am still not 100% convinced. Perhaps need to see him in a different movie?
