I asked Stefan for worms last night.
Bet he's never heard that request from me before. Usually it's the usual random stuff: a cottage, a new designer bag, a table that we don't need, a cute playhouse for Mindy, duck to cook etc.
But last night, I really wanted worms.
This is why.
Toronto has pickup for organic waste. Except for our place because it classifies as a commercial space. Which, in some ways, is ridiculous because people still make organic waste in office spaces. What about restaurants? Why are they not required to have green bins?
But really this is not about a city issue. It's a "me" issue. I just hate that all our organic waste goes into a landfill. Worst yet, I hate that our garbage smells until we throw it out. (I also refuse to throw out garbage until the bag is full or really stinky). And there doesn't seem to be any solution (at least a convenient one) that allows us to compost in our place. We don't have a balcony, and we don't really have plants (hello? Me, the person who kills cacti?)
I've looked into Bokashi, a very cool system that uses microorganisms to break down kitchen waste. Except you also need some big hole in the ground to bury it in for it to really work. I could technically try to freeze our kitchen scraps and use someone else's green box, but let's be realistic. I won't even go to an expensive gym I've signed up for if it's 5 minutes out of my way.
So it seems the best alternative could be worms. I could give the worm casings to Mama Kang and her urban jungle/balcony. Except why aren't there any cool worm bins? Living in a loft means everything is out in the open. It kind of needs to go with our design aesthetic. The closest alternative I found is this one, which costs $1500.
And if I bought that, then Stefan would really think I was crazy. He already thinks I am crazy enough.

Anyone who knows me knows that I harbour a secret love for redheads and girls with curly hair. Not necessarily together, but you know, you always want what you can't and don't have. All my redheaded friends are these outrageously, fun, outgoing, spontaneous girls. Yes, I meet the occasional meek, shy, redheaded girl but they are very few and far in between. I think I admire their natural spunk.
And curly hair? Forget about it! For the longest time I wanted to make sure I married someone who could ensure my children would have afros. I know you think I married the whitest man alive but were I to scan his university pictures, you will see that Stefan truly is an albino black man. If he grows his hair quarter of an inch longer, he has this huge afro puff. Then there is his Bahamian born butt which we will not talk about right now. I sincerely hope our progeny inherits his follicles.

So, I got an email sometime last week from a local Toronto marketing company called Matchstick, who had somehow found my blog and wanted to give me a free Nokia 6682 to test. They're a "word of mouth" marketing company who is doing a "buzz marketing" campaign. It's being offered to bloggers in the Vancouver and Toronto area who meet the following criteria -
- Hosts a popular blog with 400+ hits a day
- A current Rogers cell phone subscriber (phone only supported with the Rogers network)
- Between the ages of 22-35
- Keeps his/ her blog updated on a regular basis with pictures and video
- Very socially active
How "tipping point" of them!

You know how I always say that I am friendly to random strangers and Stefan is always cautioning me not to be and I always call him a cold fish? Well, I think this is the first time my friendliness has ever backfired on me. I was in a cab on my way to the hotel, doing my usual exchange of pleasantries when the driver asked me whether I liked my siblings. I replied that I did quite a lot, even though sometimes I think they can be Neanderthals.

Many people other than those closest to me do not realize that I am an Extroverted Introvert. You would never guess it when you first meet me as I tend to be tremendously outgoing and engaging. In fact, I am actually quite shy, painfully so at times. My gregariousness happens to be my "wall," or "white noise" as I like to call it, a way of distancing myself from people that I haven't quite decided whether they are friend or foe.

This is for Kevin who wants to know why. I am not a big movie watcher, I am a much more avid reader much to Stefan's everlasting disappointment. Either that or we're never in the same mood to watch the same things. It is the one thing that we will really fight about.

Last night, I watched You've Got Mail for the one hundredth time! No, I am sure that I haven't watched it that many times, but it sure feels like it. It's the type of movie (for me anyways) that you can watch it over and over again and you can never get sick of it.

So Stefan and I finally decided to bite the bullet last week and invest in a mega wardrobe for our space. We were tired of everything being out in the open, as we already live in an "open concept" loft apartment. And with having things on rolling racks and clothes stacked on the dressers, albeit all neatly done, it still ends up looking like a mess.

I don't know how he does it, but Stefan can give you this look that makes you feel like you're hurting the little eight year old boy inside him. This big, grown up man can make his big blue eyes turn all sad and make you feel so wretched. He just read the "Brita and Dishes" entry and said, " Don't complain about me on your blog! I'm your lover!" This is why I love him and how he gets away with MURDER.
